Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the tutorials?

The soft robotics components are categorized into broad classes, shown on the menu bar of the homepage; actuators, sensors, control, and case studies. The documentation for each class contains subsections covering the design, fabrication, modelling, and characterization of the components. These subsections are located in the navigation widget, on the left-hand side of the component's main page.

I have worked on some interesting soft robotics projects. Can I showcase my work on the Soft Robotics Toolkit?

If you would like to contribute to the site, please use this form to get in touch with us. We will follow up to guide you through the submission process and work with you to add your content to the site.

You can also contribute by participating in the Soft Robotics Design Competition, with the opportunity to win prizes!

Can I actuate soft robots in other fluids (eg: water instead of air)?

Soft actuators behave similarly for air and water, as long as the right pressure is provided.

However, for the control board, switching from air to a different working fluid might required alternative components and specifications. The pump we list is meant to use air, so you would require a different pump to achieve the required pressure. The pressure sensors/manifolds we use are also meant to be used with air so you will have to find alternatives.

Where can I buy a soft robotics starter's kit or select components?

We do not sell or provide materials at this time. However, for every system that we showcase  (actuatorssensorscontrol, and case studies), we provide all the resources needed for fabrication, including multimedia tutorials and a detailed bill of materials. The fabrication information can be found on the navigation tab, at the left hand side of the component's main page. For example, the...
